Mack Turner

Mack Turner

Board Chairman, CUSP

Mack is a senior consultant for the Institute for Safety in Powerline Construction (ISPC). He has extensive experience in the electric utility safety and training business including eight years as the Safety and Training Superintendent at Tucson Electric, and 24 years as a safety and training professional for electrical contractors and general industry. Mr. Turner holds advanced degrees in Construction and Environmental Safety and Health, as well as an Advanced Safety Certificate from the National Safety Council. He holds the title of Certified Utility Safety Administrator and Certified Utility Safety Professional. Mack has successfully completed the National Safety Council's OSHA Inspections, OSHA Record Keeping, Drugs in the Workplace, Safety Training Methods, Principles of Occupational Safety, Safety Management Techniques and Accident Investigation courses. He has also successfully completed Federal OSHA's Training Institute courses in OSHA Construction Standards, OSHA General Industry Standards, Machine Guarding, Environmental Law, Industrial Hygiene, Principles of Ergonomics, Hazardous Materials, Cranes and Rigging, Fall Protection, Electrical Standards, Scaffolding Safety and Trenching, Excavation, and Soil Mechanics.

Pam Tompkins

Pam Tompkins is president and CEO of SET Solutions, LLC. Pam is a 38 year veteran in the electric utility business. Ms. Tompkins is a grassroots leader in the electric power industry and a founding member of USOLN (Utility Safety and Ops Leadership Network) and the CUSP (Certified Utility Safety Professional) designation. She is a Certified Safety Professional (CSP), a Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP), a Certified Utility Safety Administrator (CUSA) and an authorized OTI (OSHA Training Institute) instructor. Ms. Tompkins is a frequent speaker throughout the US and internationally on Electrical Safety Compliance and industry “best practices” for National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) and NFPA 70E. As a member of IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers), she has authored and presented IEEE papers on high voltage safety issues. Pam is a regular author for iP (Incident Prevention) magazine, a leading utility industry magazine, and a regular presenter at iP Safety conferences.
John Price

John Price

John Price is currently the Manager of Environment, Health and Safety for the ENMAX Corporation based out of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. ENMAX is an electric based utility overseeing electrical installation and maintenance activities through generation, distribution, network, and Light Rail Transit. John is a Journeyman Power Line Technician holding a Red Seal endorsement (RSE) with 17 years of experience in a variety of different roles and work activities for utilities and as a contractor. He holds certifications as a Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP), an Electrical Safety Codes Officer (SCO), and is also a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP). John was named the recipient of the John McRae Safety Leadership Award in 2014.
Ted Granger

Ted is the principal consultant for Granger Management Consultants. In this role, he provides sustainable safety improvement solutions through training, lectures and safety consulting services. Prior to his current role, Ted held various managerial positions during his 37 year career at Florida Power & Light Company. These included T&D operations, human resources, logistics and safety, where he utilized his Six Sigma Black Belt certification.
Jeff Clemons

Jeff Clemons

Jeff Clemons is currently employed with San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E). SDG&E is one of three domestic utilities owned by Sempra Energy, a Fortune 500 company with energy holdings across the United States, Mexico, Peru, and Chile. In addition to leading SDG&E projects, Jeff has also worked as a domestic and international corporate Environmental, Health & Safety Auditor for Sempra Energy, evaluating numerous projects across all of Sempra’s business units. Jeff now leads a team of skilled safety professionals who monitor and advise multi-disciplined utility contractors responsible for constructing high-profile projects for SDG&E.

In addition to supporting electrical transmission and distribution projects, Jeff has supported natural gas transmission projects as well. He has also provided safety oversight on innovative clean energy projects such as synchronous condenser additions to substations, and the largest lithium-ion battery energy storage facility in North America. With over 12 years of utility experience, his knowledge and expertise in human performance and behavior help ensure SDG&E’s Major Projects division continues to successfully and safely complete projects with injury and illness rates well below the industry’s average.

Jeff received the Certified Utility Safety Professional (CUSP) designation in 2012 and possesses a Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Psychology from the University of the Pacific.

Jim Vaughn

Jim Vaughn

Jim Vaughn, Resident SME and Facilitator at Incident Prevention Institute has 40 years of experience in utility and industrial electrical construction. Beginning his line career in the ’70s, he is an experienced lineman and foreman in transmission and distribution construction and bare-hand maintenance. After a brief separation to fulfill educational opportunities, he returned to the industry, taking up leadership roles in training and safety administration. Jim has authored numerous procedure and standards documents and technical training programs. His original curriculum for line technician training was adopted by the Florida Department of Education and is used broadly across Florida and the electric utility industry. In addition to his OSHA expertise with industry standards, he is highly regarded for his demonstrated skills in hazard identification, incident investigation, safety program development and application of consensus standards to meet OSHA requirements. Jim has written articles on safety and training for several publications and is a sought-after speaker on contemporary safety and technical issues. He has often been called on for his skills as a post-incident electrical forensics consultant. In industry-related education, Jim has delivered many hours in both the college classroom and adult learner technical training, and is recognized for effective technology transfer skills that complement his safety and technical training courses. He currently sits on the editorial board of Incident Prevention magazine. Jim was named the recipient of the John McRae Safety Leadership Award in 2013.
Ron Schenk

Ron Schenk

CUSP
Ronald J. Schenk, COSS, is executive director of the Institute for Safety in Powerline Construction (ISPC). He served as Red Simpson, Inc.’s Director of Training for nearly a decade and also held the Director of Training position at Universal Electric Construction from 1990 to 1994.
